BIO

Dr. Julia Tomassetti is a legal scholar and sociologist with expertise in labour law, contracts, economic sociology, and political economy. She earned a JD from Harvard Law School and a PhD in Sociology from UCLA. Before joining Swinburne, she was on the law faculty of the City University of Hong Kong and held fellowships at the Georgetown University Law Center, the Baldy Center for Law & Social Policy at SUNY Buffalo, and the Center for Law, Society, & Culture at the Maurer School of Law. Her current research explores information technologies and work, neoliberal legal reasoning, managerial prerogative, the relationship between employment and the modern business enterprise, the political economy of platforms, and domestic helpers in the criminal justice system. At Swinburne, she teaches Torts and Employment Law. Before entering the academy, Dr. Tomassetti practiced campaign finance and employment law in New York City.
