I am a Senior Lecturer in Criminology at Swinburne University of Technology, where I work closely with community organisations to improve outcomes for young people involved in statutory systems, particularly youth justice and out-of-home care.

My research explores how risk, care and responsibility are understood and enacted in statutory environments, and how these systems can better recognise the lived experiences and rights of young people. I currently leading projects on responsible artificial intelligence in youth services, youth justice housing pathways and transitions, and the co-design of trauma-responsive environments. Across these works, I focus on building evidence that is directly useful to the practitioners, organisations and decision-makers who support young people.

I publish across criminology, sociology, youth studies and social work, and I actively engage with government, the media and community organisations to translate research into meaningful policy and practice change.

I am the co-founder and current lead of the Responsible AI in Youth Sectors Network (RAIYSN), bringing together academics, youth workers, and policymakers to shape the ethical adoption of AI across Victoria’s youth sectors. My commitment to collaborative and sector-embedded research has resulted in partnerships with agencies across Victoria, and growing national influence in debates on digital transformation and youth policy reform.

I teach across the criminology program, coordinating CRI30002 Corrections: Systems and Practice and CRI30010: Youth Justice and Crime, promoting innovative, relational and reflective learning experiences for students.

My broader goal is to strengthen systems that support young people so that these systems become more ethical, equitable and responsive to the needs of young people, ensuring that emerging technology and policy reform genuinely support their wellbeing and foster positive futures.
