Professor Feng Wang, PhD, FRACI, FAIP

Professor of Chemistry

Professor Feng Wang is an internationally recognised leader in computational chemistry, artificial intelligence for molecular design, sustainable aviation fuels (SAF), hydrogen technologies, and energy materials. Her research combines quantum chemistry, molecular simulation, machine learning, and digital science to accelerate the discovery of advanced materials, catalysts, pharmaceuticals, and clean-energy solutions.

After completing her PhD in Theoretical and Computational Chemistry at the University of Newcastle, Australia, she held the prestigious NSERC International Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Waterloo, Canada, before joining The University of Melbourne and later Swinburne University of Technology.

Professor Wang is a Fellow of both the Royal Australian Chemical Institute (FRACI) and the Australian Institute of Physics (FAIP). She has served on the Australian Research Council (ARC) College of Experts and held national leadership roles in Australia's high-performance computing and research infrastructure programs. She also assesses research proposals for major international funding agencies across Canada, Ireland, Switzerland and Singapore.

Her contributions to research and innovation have been recognised through numerous honours, including Winner of the Australian Aviation Awards 2026 Engineering Professional of the Year and Finalist for the Australian AI Awards 2026 AI Academic/Researcher of the Year.

A passionate educator and mentor, Professor Wang teaches across the chemistry curriculum, supervises honours and higher degree researchers, and actively supports early-career researchers and women pursuing careers in STEM.
