I hold a BSc in Applied Mathematics from Instituto Tecnologico Autonomo de Mexico, and an MEd and a PhD in Mathematics Education from the University of Leeds, UK. I am a fellow of Advance HE (Higher Education Academy).

After completing my PhD, I worked as a post-doctoral researcher at The University of Manchester, and later on took a position as Lecturer in Mathematics Education at Loughborough University, in the UK. At the end of 2017, I was appointed Senior Lecturer at Swinburne University of Technology, in Australia. From 2023, I am an Associate Professor of Mathematics Education in the Department of Mathematics, where I am also the Director of the Mathematics and Statistics Help (MASH) Centre.
