BIO

Dr Rohan Shah is a research-active academic and emerging research leader in the Department of Chemistry and Biotechnology, teaching into the Bachelor of Science and Master of Science (Biotechnology) programs, and a Research Fellow with the Iverson Health Innovation Research Institute at Swinburne University, as well as a Visiting Research Scientist at CSIRO. He completed his PhD at Swinburne University, supported by the Victoria-India Doctoral Scholarship, and has received national recognition for his work, including the Sparrho Early Career Researcher Prize for research on lipid nanoparticle platforms. His research focuses on nanomedicine and lipid-based drug delivery systems, with particular emphasis on surface-engineered and infection-responsive nanocarriers for addressing global health challenges such as antibiotic resistance and hard-to-treat infections. He applies systems biology and metabolomics to interrogate complex biological and environmental systems, enabling mechanism-driven design of therapeutic platforms and sustainable technologies across health, food, and environmental biotechnology. He has secured competitive research funding and works extensively in interdisciplinary teams spanning chemistry, biotechnology, health sciences, and environmental science, collaborating with national and international partners across academia, industry, and government research organisations. He is a registered Pharmacist with the Pharmacy Council of India and a Chartered Member of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute (RACI), where he has held leadership roles including Treasurer of the Victorian Branch Early Career Chemists Group (ECCG). He contributes actively to the scientific community through editorial and peer-review leadership, having served as a guest associate editor for Frontiers in Sustainable Food Systems and currently serving as a guest editor for Metabolites and Journal of Nanotechnology. He is also an associate editor for Food Science and Nutrition Cases and Frontiers for Young Minds.
