BIO

Dr Bita Zaferanloo is a microbial biotechnologist advancing sustainable, interdisciplinary solutions at the nexus of human health, environmental resilience, and agricultural innovation. Her research explores the hidden potential of endophytes associated with Australian flora, uncovering novel bioactive metabolites and decoding host–microbe interactions to translate biodiversity into real-world impact. By integrating fungal biotechnology, natural product discovery, and omics approaches, she builds evidence-based pathways from fundamental science to application spanning plant growth promotion and resilience, bioactive discovery, and bioconversion aligned with circular bioeconomy outcomes.

Alongside her research, Bita is an award-recognised educational leader committed to empowering the next generation of STEM professionals. She designs authentic, industry-connected learning that strengthens students’ confidence, communication, and problem-solving skills, and she is recognised for forging partnerships across industry, community, government, and university networks. Through Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) initiatives such as Shaping STEM Futures, she enables students to become science communicators and emerging leaders, equipped to address complex challenges with creativity, ethics, and purpose.

Across her roles as researcher, educator, and collaborator, Dr Zaferanloo champions a clear vision: to unite disciplines, people, and ideas to create innovations that benefit society and the planet.
